New York Attorney General Faces Federal Financial Fraud Charges

A national judicial panel has charged Letitia James over allegations of bank fraud this past Thursday, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Lindsey Halligan directly submitted the case to the grand jury on Thursday, as reported.

US attorneys rarely present to such panels.

Halligan took over as US attorney the previous month following the president became frustrated regarding the progress in ongoing probes involving adversaries.

The move marks a recent strategy to leverage the Department of Justice to punish political rivals.

It follows a fortnight after Halligan obtained indictments against James Comey.

Career prosecutors wrote a document in that case detailing the reasons charges were not justified.

Comey pleaded not guilty this past Wednesday.
