The England manager Questions Home Fan Atmosphere Following Dominant Wales Victory.
Thomas Tuchel shared his regret that the England team did not get more backing from the Wembley fans during their impressive triumph over Wales on Thursday night.
The manager was satisfied to see his squad maintain their winning momentum, with goals from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the initial stages effectively ending the game. However, he was not content with the mood at the iconic venue.
“We had limited sessions to prepare against a well-trained team and we did very well,” Tuchel stated. “We could have been five goals ahead at half-time. We couldn’t score the additional goals. There was little noise. We didn’t get any energy from the stands. Our team gave their all to win.”
“What more can you deliver in 20 minutes? We prevented them get away. When you only hear just the Welsh supporters for 30 minutes, it’s sad because the team deserved better encouragement today.”
“I maintain my words. There’s nothing more than being 3-0 in a derby. I hoped for a greater backing in moments where it is challenging.”
“After halftime, to get behind us, there was excessive support for Wales. It could have helped us to refocus, but it is what it is and so be it.”
Squad Decisions Vindicated by Performance
Away from potentially starting a dispute among fans, the manager also raised eyebrows by excluding Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. But the decision was validated by Morgan Rogers excelling in the No 10 position and netting his first international goal.
“He plays his game,” the head coach noted. “He is a No 10 and he is vying for his spot.”
Bellamy Seeks Improvement from Loss
Craig Bellamy hopes that Wales, who face Belgium in a key qualifying match on Monday, take lessons from their disappointing performance in the opening period.
“This is why I wanted this game,” Bellamy stated. “I wanted to assess our current level. Where do we want to go? Who do we want to be? This performance fills me with drive.”
Fitness Worry for Watkins
Ollie Watkins was withdrawn at half-time after colliding with a post and will be a doubt when England face Latvia in Riga in a qualifier on next week.
